Global Talent visa
The most flexible work route the UK offers, and the most under-used. No sponsor, no minimum salary, no tie to an employer, and you can take a job, change job, start a business or do all three.
Why it is worth considering even if you already have an offer
A Skilled Worker visa ties your permission to one employer and one job. If that job ends, your permission is curtailed and a short clock starts. Every decision you make for five years is shaped by that.
Global Talent has none of it. You are not sponsored, so no employer holds your status. There is no minimum salary, so taking a lower-paid role at a start-up, or a period of research, or a career break, does not put you at risk.
The route now includes a pathway for the design industry, and peer review has been simplified for PhD-level research roles at approved UK institutions.
The two limbs
The fields, and who endorses
Endorsement is by a recognised body in your field: arts and culture, digital technology, and academia, research, engineering and the humanities, alongside the newer design pathway. Each applies its own criteria and each has its own view of what good evidence looks like, which is why an application that would succeed with one body can fail with another.
There is also a fast-track route for holders of certain prestigious prizes, and an accelerated academic route for those appointed to eligible research or fellowship positions — worth checking before assuming the full endorsement process is necessary.
What the evidence actually has to show
This is where applications succeed or fail, and where most self-prepared applications go wrong.
The endorsing body is not assessing whether you are good at your job. It is assessing recognition — evidence that people other than you and your employer regard your work as significant.
What counts, depending on field: work published, performed, exhibited or deployed at scale; press or specialist media coverage; awards and nominations; invitations to speak, judge or review; significant contributions to a product, company or body of work that others can verify; citations and research impact; and letters of recommendation from people whose own standing is established.
What we do
Assess honestly whether you meet the standard before you spend anything. Identify which endorsing body and which limb fit your evidence best. Structure the evidence so that it answers the criteria the body actually applies rather than the ones the applicant assumes. Advise on recommendation letters, which are frequently the weakest part of an otherwise strong application. Then handle the endorsement and the visa application.
Where you do not meet the standard yet, we will say so and tell you what would change that — which is often a realistic twelve-to-eighteen-month project rather than a closed door.
Settlement
Five years remains the qualifying period, and three years for those endorsed under Exceptional Talent. The proposed ten-year “earned settlement” baseline has not been enacted and no date has been confirmed.
From 26 March 2027 the English requirement for settlement rises from B1 to B2.
What it costs
A fixed fee, quoted before we begin, usually structured in two stages — endorsement, then the visa application — so you are not committed to the second before you know the outcome of the first. Endorsing body and Home Office fees, and the Immigration Health Surcharge, are additional.
Questions
Questions people ask us
Do I need a job offer?
No. That is the point of the route. You can arrive without one, take one, leave it, or start a business instead.
Am I senior enough?
More people meet the standard than assume they do, particularly under Exceptional Promise. The question is not seniority but recognition — whether people outside your own employer regard your work as significant. Send us your CV and we will give you a straight answer.
Which is better, Global Talent or Skilled Worker?
If you qualify, Global Talent, almost always. No sponsor, no salary threshold, no employer holding your status, and settlement in three years on the Exceptional Talent limb.
What if I am refused endorsement?
There is an endorsement review process, and reapplication is possible. But the first application is much the strongest opportunity, and a refusal makes the second harder — which is the argument for getting the evidence right the first time.
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Partners and children can apply as dependants, and there is no minimum salary requirement attached.
